Hymn of the Week!

THE DOMESTIC CHURCH is the Church at Home. That’s certainly where we all are at the moment. The first ‘Domestic Church’ was the Holy Family of Joseph, Mary and Jesus; and the life they shared together outside of the weekly synagogue worship. The Catholic Church teaches that the Church at Home is the most important church of all. After all, it’s where most of us are usually based for the majority of the week. So it is at home that first and foremost Catholic parents learn to form their family as a domestic church, a church in the home, where God is honoured, His Law is respected, prayer is a normal event, virtue is transmitted by word and example, and everyone shares the hopes, the problems and sufferings of everyone else. It is at home where all of us, whatever our household, can do most of our daily praying and living in God.

This temporary time of ‘stay at home’ is an opportunity to develop our ‘church at home.’ When the lockdown is lifted I hope that all of us will still be able to keep going the good things we have developed at home including being ‘church’ together at home. I hope that the HYMN OF THE WEEK helps to bring God into your day and into your family at home. Why not listen a few times and join in with the refrains, giving thanks to God.
